When you start your mac, does he make the beep-tone at the start? Does the apple sign appear on the gray background? If not, your RAM died.

no beep - here's what happens

it loads up minus the beep

gets to the screen with the grey appple and the loader circle

after this it gets to the blue screen with the progress bar/apple logo but it doesn't load anything
the pointer is on the screen but as soon as i move it over the load bar i get the spinning beach ball forever (i left it on overnight at this point with no joy)

i have 4gig of ram in it so i might try taking some out and running it on the original 512mb ram

any other ideas, i tried safe mode and it does the extended load time on the grey screen but then it just goes back to the blue screen with the progress bar

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, i've had to form out £70 on a new sata hard drive my mom is sending me my install disk so i've gotta reinstall mac os x and then slave my old hd to get all my files off it.....superfuckingayness
